“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14 NkJV
“Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.”
Luke 1:30-31 NKJV
Hundreds of years prior to the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah prophesied concerning Jesus’ birth that He would be born of a virgin. But why was the virgin birth necessary? Why couldn’t He have an earthly Father like the rest of humanity? The answer is found in the book of beginnings… Genesis.
When God’s first man Adam had sinned in the garden of Eden, something terrible happened to him and the rest of humanity which came from him. The blood line of Adam was contaminated with a sin nature that was passed down to every human being, even to this day. Therefore, if Jesus had an earthly father, His blood would also be contaminated with the sin nature of man, disqualifying Him to be our redeemer.
That’s why Jesus had to be conceived by The Holy Spirit in the womb of a virgin. In this way Jesus was fully divine as the Son of God and fully human as the Son of man. Not half God and half man… but all God and all man.
Because the blood line is passed down through the father, Jesus blood was not tainted by sin because He had no earthly father. His conception by The Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary allowed Him to identify with God as divine and with us as human. He was human but His blood was divine and untouched by the nature of sin.
This miracle of Jesus virgin birth qualified Him to be our Savior and redeemer when no other person before the birth of Christ nor after could qualify to be our Savior. What a beautiful redemptive plan our God performed through the virgin birth of Jesus. It was through the shedding of His innocent blood on the cross that bought and brought our salvation and forgiveness of sins.
Call upon Jesus now and you can freely receive your redemption and Salvation this Christmas season.
