“Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for Him. Turning to Philip, He asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?”Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward He did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.”
John 6:5, 8-9, 11 NLT
Most of us are familiar with this famous story regarding Jesus multiplying the loaves and fishes to feed the huge crowds of people who became hungry after following Him an entire day in the desert. But are you familiar with why the loaves and fishes were multiplied?
Verse 11 reveals the secret. “Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward He did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.” Notice the food only increased or multiplied when and after Jesus gave thanks to God for it.
The food was not enough to meet the needs of the people but when Jesus gave thanks to God for the little, the little became much. This is a powerful truth that is revealed to us… if we will give God thanks for everything we have, even for what seems like not enough, God will then take the power of thanking Him and turn the not enough into more than enough.
After Jesus used the power of thanksgiving to God for the little amount, the huge crowd ate as much as they wanted with a lot of leftovers. This tells us that if we will practice giving thanks to God for even what seems to be little, God will take our thanksgiving to Him and use that power to make our little into enough and even more.
What are you lacking today? What seems to be not enough? Your health, your bank account, maybe you need wisdom. Instead of complaining about the little, start thanking God for the little you do have, and watch God use thank you power to turn your little into much.
