“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
There are so many things that call for our attention in this race of life that each of us are running. Some things are necessary and need our focus, but many things are distractions that draw us away from our purpose and daily enjoyment.
Notice, in the above scripture that we are to lay aside weights and sins that ensnare or distract us. How do we lay these negative things aside? We look unto Jesus.
During a storm the disciple Peter, who was in a boat. began to walk on water towards Jesus. The storm was powerful, yet Peter had no problem walking on the water as long as he was looking unto Jesus. When his focus shifted from Jesus to the wind and waves of the storm, he began to sink. His eyes changed focus from the Lord to the storm.
In life we sometimes do the same thing. We are walking above the problems of life because our attention is not on the storms around us but on Jesus and the victory He gives us through the cross. But if we begin to look and focus on the challenges before us we will begin to sink as Peter did.
The good news for Peter and for us is even as Peter was sinking he called out to Jesus, which put his attention back in the right place and of course Jesus rescued him.
If you feel yourself sinking under the pressure of this current storm we are in, then refocus your attention on Jesus, knowing He will keep you walking above the fray of the storm. By faith lay aside every distraction and turn away from the noise of the wind and the waves. Call out to Jesus. He will lift you up.
This storm will end. Even now the winds and the waves are calming down. Jesus will not allow you to sink, even if your faith is weak as Peter’s was. Our Lord will rescue you and protect you.
As the sun breaks forth at the close of every storm so the Son of God will break forth in your life with blessings and victory. As you run your race in life keep looking unto Jesus and you will live above the fray of the storms that come your way.
