Is it possible that laughter can release healing agents in the human body? Is it true that a joyful laugh can cure or at least improve a physical condition that medical science has given little or no hope for recovery? According to studies done by medical teams the body releases endorphins when joy and laughter are released.

This is another example of science proving what God already said in His Word. Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” When our spirit is continually grieved and broken-hearted, it can effect our health in a negative way. On the other hand, when we release joyful praise to the Lord with laughter and gladness, it brings healing and wholeness to our bodies.

Most of us have taken medicine prescribed by our doctor to help cure a sickness. The Doctor will say something like, “take 2 tablets twice daily for 2 weeks and you should be completely well by then.” We usually don’t question our physician. We believe he or she knows what is best for us so we take our medicine accordingly-usually with positive results.

I wonder what would happen if we took the medicine that God prescribes on a daily basis. What if we rejoiced in the Lord twice a day with laughter and praise… what would happen? The joy and laughter we expressed to The Lord would in turn release a medicine in our bodies that no sickness or disease could tolerate.

I remember once having (for me) a rare migraine headache. Something was said that hit my funny bone and I began to belly laugh for several minutes with a few others. After we finished laughing, I notice my headache was gone. I don’t mean mostly gone, I mean completely gone. I then remembered this scripture about joy and laughter being a medicine to our bodies and in fact our entire being.

Begin today to take God’s medicine. Rejoice in The Lord! Don’t take everything so seriously. Laugh! Enjoy life! Your spirit, soul and body will thank you!
