“Now whenever the cloud of God’s glory lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it. But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted. The cloud of the Lord hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.” Exodus 40:36-38 NLT
What a blessing and advantage the people of God had in those days. If God wanted them to move, the cloud of His Glory would lift off of the tabernacle and the people would simply follow the cloud to wherever it settled. If the cloud remained then they would remain. If the cloud moved then they would move. In this way they followed the Lord’s leading in all their journeys.
Under the New Covenant of Grace, we have the glory of God living inside our Tabernacles (our bodies) by the Holy Spirit. We can learn to follow the Cloud of glory just as the children of Israel did.
How? By following His peace on the inside of us. The cloud of His presence inside of our spirits will lead us in all our journeys in life. Of course the Holy Spirit never leaves us but He does lead and guide us. We follow the cloud by following His peace in our decision making. Are your choices bringing rest and a sense of peace in your heart. If so the cloud of Glory is leading you in that direction. Are you feeling unrest and the absence of peace in your decisions, then perhaps you are moving in a direction that His Glory is not leading you.
We obviously don’t have a literal cloud of glory to follow as they did in the Old Testament. What we have in the New Testament is so much better. We literally have His Glory cloud on the inside of us that will guide us in all our journeys.
Stop always looking to all of the outside things to make your decisions. They may or may not be right for you. Look to the inside of you… the glory cloud of His presence resides in you. Follow His peaceful presence and you will find yourself following the cloud of His glory and His plans for your life.
